Trees live and breathe, and they are wonderful for the outdoors and beneficial for the environment –the earth needs trees! Unfortunately, they can acquire certain diseases or harm areas of their ‘body’, but they have unique ways of telling us and crying out for help. It can be hard to spot if you are not a tree expert. If your trees look dreadful or unhealthy, there is a reason for it. Those with a special green thumb can help their trees improve, but most of the time, it is best to bring in a specialized professional before situations with your plants/trees escalate.
Living in Southwest Florida, you’re probably used to seeing tall palm trees with vibrant green leaves covering every inch of the area. The changing leaves might feel normal if you live in North Florida or somewhere else where you experience autumn, but if the leaves on your trees start to alter in color, you should check with an expert. It’s necessary to see if the other trees in your neighborhood are changing colors. It may be an indication that a tree is increasingly prone to insects and diseases. If leaves are dropping off your tree in a rapid rate, it can be an issue with the soil moisture, a lack of energy due to climate changes, or be tied to the trees overall strength and health. A lot of leaves dropping from a tree or a tree that has thinned out recently, are good indicators that proper tree care is required. Are there no leaves at all? –this could be due to stress or root issues. A tree without leaves doesn’t necessarily mean that the tree is lifeless, but it will affect the appearance and visual appeal of your front and/or backyard. A reliable tree service will simply diagnose the problem and determine a fast treatment plan.
Even though tree sap contains nutrients and minerals, too much sap is a problem. This sticky liquid runs through the tree and down to the branches to help generate energy. The sap is transferred throughout a tree, much like blood in human veins. A large amount of oozing tree sap is a sign of poor tree health, and early detection with the sap issue can save its life. Also, large (obvious) cracking on the trunk is a prime reason to call someone. Cracking of the tree can mean the bark and heartwood is separating. Without action, the tree’s structural integrity could be harmed, leading to the tree being more vulnerable to decay, insects and disease –or fall over.
Seeing growths that look like Fungi around the base may possibly mean your tree root plate is decomposing. If the roots begin to soften, this can create a detachment with the roots stem. Over time, this will make the tree unbalanced. After a thorough diagnosis, the issue could be root disease, deep planting, or caused by injuries from a lawn mower.
As a general rule of thumb, it is recommended that trees get evaluated twice a year –during the summer and winter. Keeping your trees healthy will save you money by decreasing the possibility of future property damage or tree removal.
